Check the water notices before you unpack
Start with storms, the rip-current outlook and any swimming advisory. Water temperature and tide help with timing, but neither one tells you the water is safe.

Read each result for what it actually is
The timestamp and source matter as much as the number. These four details keep similar-looking beach data from answering the wrong question.
- ForecastNWS weather and EPA UV look ahead. Read the hour attached to the value instead of treating it as a current sensor reading.
- ObservationThe NOAA water temperature is measured at station 8726724. It can differ from the exact place and time you enter the Gulf.
- PredictionHigh and low tide times are calculated predictions, not observed water levels or a swimming-safety signal.
- SampleThe FWC card identifies one nearby sample by location and collection date. Florida Healthy Beaches is a separate check for bacterial swimming advisories.
If a check is missing, open the source beside it
The board does not fill a gap with yesterday’s answer or turn an empty result into good news.
If no nearby FWC sample appears
That describes the search result, not the water. Open the FWC map and use the date and location of any sample you find.
Swimming advisory status is link-only
Open Florida Healthy Beaches before swimming. Red tide and bacterial water quality come from different programs.
Once you reach the sand
Posted flags, lifeguard instructions, closures, and tour-operator decisions take priority over this planning board.
