Current NOAA observation
Latest usable NOAA observation.
No usable live reading is available here right now.
Latest usable NOAA observation.
Observation, not forecast. This is a measured water-temperature reading from NOAA station 8726724, not a prediction of how the water will feel later.
The station sensor is not on every stretch of shoreline. Sun, depth, currents, wind, and the exact place you enter the water can make local conditions feel different.
Run five checks—not one beach score
A walk on the sand, a swim with children, and a boat trip do not require the same conditions. Each signal answers a different question.
- Air and stormsOpen the hourly NWS forecast for timing, wind, heat, rain, alerts, and thunderstorm language.
- Surf and rip currentsUse the NWS Tampa Bay beach outlook, then follow posted flags and lifeguards at the beach. A forecast is not a flag report.
- Gulf temperature and tidesRead the latest NOAA observation separately from predicted high and low tides.
- Red tideLook for the closest recent FWC sample, its collection date, and concentration—not a Florida-wide headline.
- Swim advisoriesCheck Florida Healthy Beaches. Red tide and bacterial water quality are separate checks.
At the beach: conditions can change after this check. Follow posted flags, lifeguards, and official warnings when you arrive.
Match the result to the plan
The more water exposure or vulnerability involved, the more conservative the decision should be.
| Your plan | Conditions that matter most | Useful response |
|---|---|---|
| Swim or wade | Flags, rip outlook, storms, red tide, swim advisory | If any official warning applies, keep this a dry-land day. |
| Young or weak swimmer | Staffed lifeguard tower, flags, rip outlook, water temperature | Use the guarded window and choose sand or a lifeguarded pool when uncertainty is high. |
| Sit or walk | Heat, lightning, respiratory irritation, beach closures | A no-swim day can still be a beach-walk day unless an official notice or symptoms say otherwise. |
| Boat or paddle | Operator status, wind, storms, marine conditions | Follow the operator and official marine forecast; the on-page beach summary is not a go/no-go decision. |
What an unavailable source means
A broken feed or an old sample must fail closed to “status unavailable.”
No recent red-tide sample
This does not mean red tide is absent. Open the FWC map and check conditions at the beach.
No advisory data
This does not mean bacterial water quality passed. Open the Healthy Beaches page before swimming.
Old observation
A historical or stale number is hidden rather than presented as current.
